To enable students to reach high academic standards, Burton Glen Charter Academy has put in place a dress code designed to reduce distractions and competitions. Implementing a simple, flexible, cost effective dress code promotes student learning and increased academic instruction time.

Personal Hygiene
The personal grooming of elementary and middle school students should be in accord with the standards set by the uniform dress code. Students should be clean and neat when at school.

All Students
• Outerwear may not be worn in the classrooms.
• All shirts must have sleeves.
• Clothing must fit neatly. Clothing that is extra large may create a safety hazard on the playground or during Physical Education.
• Pants must be worn at the waist; no sagging pants are permitted. Spandex, leggings, pajamas, sweat suits, and sweat pants are not permitted.
• Athletic shoes should be brought to school for use in gym. Boots are not permitted except as outerwear. Socks must be worn at all times. Opened-toed and/or backless shoes are not permitted. Heelies are not permitted.
• Hats or headscarves of any kind may not be worn in the building except for religious purposes.
• Extreme hairstyles are not permitted. Hair color must be of natural tones.
• Clothing with objectionable logos, characters, or wording is not allowed.
• Wording that suggests violence and/or antisocial attitudes, or advertises for alcohol, drugs or tobacco products is not acceptable.
• Wearing, carrying, and displaying gang paraphernalia, names, signs, or symbols of gang membership are prohibited.
• Backpacks and purses should be left in students’ lockers or cubbies.
• Backpacks with wheels are not permitted.
• Any types of chains are not permitted (e.g., wallet chains, chain belts).
• Hoodies are not permitted.

• Belts must be worn with pants and shorts that have belt loops.
