Community Partnerships
The staff and students at Burton Glen Academy believe that giving back is an important part of our responsibility as goodwill ambassadors in our community. We also believe that working in a partnership with local companies and organizations is integral piece to a well rounded education. It is by going outside of the walls of our school that we can open our student’s hearts and minds. There is not enough room in this piece to list all of our interaction with our surrounding community, however, here is a peek.
Just this past year alone, the students led fund-raising initiatives such as “Jump Rope for Heart”, “Pennies for Patients”, and “The Herlache Dash” (which raised money for Paws for a Cause and the Children’s Lukemia Foundation). The students lead Canned Food Drives for the Michigan Food Bank and also led a donation initiative for the local Humane Society.
The Burton Glen Family also takes pride in inviting the community into their school. This past year Big Brother/Big Sisters led an after school program, we had the “Chill Program” come in to teach our students about Anger Management. Genessee Community Mental Health and the Genessee ISD came to speak with our parents about topics such as depression and stress in children and also held an open parent forum. Also during the course of last year we held our first “Family Expo” in which 25 community organizations came for an evening and set up individual booths to inform our Burton Glen Families on what our community had to offer them. This was a big hit that included food and prizes donated from the organizations and also surrounding companies such as Target, Sams Club, and Meijers. We are looking forward to the coming year and what it has to hold.
